You will gain a comprehensive knowledge of how to work with Ministers through:
- Learning what Ministers and their political advisors value in policy advice.
- How to work effectively with stakeholders to get great policy outcomes.
- Identify the influences within the public sector that impact modern-day policy making.
- Understand ethical decision making, core values and the integrity frameworks of the VPS.
Course outcomes
Participants will gain a comprehensive overview of how to work with Ministers exploring:
- Working with Ministers and ministerial offices to deliver quality public policy advice
- Understanding what Ministers want in advice for the various roles they must fulfil
- Working effectively with ministerial advisors, understanding their role.
- Developing strategies and approaches for delivering ‘frank and fearless’ policy advice
- Navigating a complex ‘authorising environment’ including the parliament, cabinet, cabinet and parliamentary committees, statutory offices and other democratic architecture.
